Thank you all for taking this journey with me. I’ve waited a lot of years to be able to see this dream a reality.
For everything there is a season, A time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
I’m not a real religious person. Yes I have faith. I’m just not about putting it in everyone else’s face, but I do think this verse is so apropos. I’ve started my writing journey several times in life. I loved to write when I was young. I dreamed of becoming an author, but life kept getting in the way. I even took romance writing courses in college and started writing a book. Funny thing about that. I had to put it all away when I landed a job working 60-80 hours a week at the same time I was accepted full time in college to finish my degree. That’s a tough load to haul while playing supermom.
Many years have passed. I’m no longer stuck on that hamster wheel. In fact, I had to get off when my health took a serious nose dive. It took years to adjust to not having a career, no longer having a nice income and losing the identity I had built. But as the verse says… For everything there is a season. Well this is my season to take the road less traveled, to fulfill my dreams.
In October 2019, I heard about the National Novel Writing Month challenge. NaNoWriMo is held in November of every year. The challenge is to write a novel or 50k words in a month. I was pumped. I had no clue what I was going to write and I was really coming to the table late. Most writers had spent the months of September and October prepping for the challenge. I didn’t really have time for all that. I had a full calendar in October so I was just going to have to hit the ground running come November 1st.
I dusted off an old story idea, one of those “what if” scenarios. What if an alien infant was orphaned on a backwater planet? What if she was raised by the community? What if she went into heat and was broadcasting fuck me pheromones to every male? What if she had no clue what was happening? Okay, we have our female main character.
Now we just needed a male main character. So what if a visiting galactic elite soldier, one who has lost his sense of smell rescues her from a visiting slaver? Why has he lost his sense of smell, you ask. Well our hero has an uninvited guest situated around his olfactory in the form of a symbiont.
This is the general idea that spawned 50k words that November and another 50k in 2020. Now the book is all but finished. It’s developed into a reverse harem sci-fi/fantasy romance trilogy called the Mepuvirean Prophecy. I hope you’ll all take a ride with me as I expand the universe I’ve created.
